Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander briefed members on implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Minister for Africa Lord Malloch Brown briefed members on the status of UNAMID and MINURCAT.

The Associate Parliamentary Group on Sudan and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Genocide Prevention are hosting a briefing for MPs and Lords on progress towards the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the UNAMID joint African Union and United Nations force to be deployed in Darfur, and the MINURCAT EU force to be deployed in Eastern Chad and North Eastern areas of the Central African Republic.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement is under severre strain. The EU force is expected to start deploying in November while the UNAMID force is due to be on the ground in the New Year. John Bercow MP and David Drew MP will jointly chair the meeting. The meeting will also serve as the AGM for the Genocide Prevention All Party Parliamentary Group. The Aegis Trust will circulate a briefing on the UNAMID and MINURCAT deployments to MPs and Lords ahead of the meeting. The Sudan APG will distribute a briefing on the CPA.
