A discussion on the Sudan’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement: Where to next? with Omer Siddig (Ambassador of Sudan to the UK), Kuyok Abol Kuyok (General Secretary of SPLM UK), Dr Douglas Johnson (Abyei Boundaries Commission), and Michael O’Neill (UK Special Representative on Sudan).

The two parties to the agreement need to find a way to work through some difficult issues
Representatives of other Sudanese political parties and civil society will also be in attendance and there will be time for statements and discussion.

H.E Omer Siddig, Ambassador of Sudan to the UK
H.E. Omer Siddig is currently the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the UK. Prior to his appointment, H.E. was Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. From 2003-4 he was Director of the Department of Peace and Humanitarian Affairs and from 2004-5 Executive Director of the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs. H.E. was a member of the Government of Sudan’s negotiating team during the Naivasha talks.

Kuyok Abol Kuyok, General Secretary of SPLM UK
Kuyok Abol Kuyok has worked in the UK SPLM Office since 1994 and is currently the Secretary General of the SPLM Chapter in the UK and Ireland. Before coming to the UK, he taught in the Sudan.

Douglas Johnson
Douglas H. Johnson is an historian of the Sudan and author of The Root Causes of Sudan’s Civil Wars (James Currey, 2003). He recently served on the Abyei Boundaries Commission, as part of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan. He is a Senior Associate Member of St Antony’s College, Oxford.

Michael O’Neill, UK Special Representative on Sudan
UK Special Representative for Sudan, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office since July, Michael O’Neill was formerly a UK External Relations Counsellor to the European Union in Brussells, and a Counsellor on Sustainable Development and Human Rights with the UK Mission to the United Nations, New York.
