The Officers as they appear on the House of Commons Register of All Party Groups.
Chair, David Drew MP
David took over from Hilton Dawson as Chair of the APG Sudan in May 2005. David has a long standing commitment to Sudan. He accompanied the APG to Sudan in 2002 and 2004 and 2007 and contributed to the groups reports and recommendations to the UK Government. David tirelessly champions the cause of peace, justice and development in Sudan in Parliament through Chairing meetings, tabling questions and debates, meeting with Ministers and Civil Servants to keep Sudan on the agenda in Parliament.
Vice-Chair, Baroness Tonge
Jenny is the former Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park and Liberal Democrat Shadow International Development Spokesperson. She has been a passionate advocate for Sudan during her time in Parliament. The APG was sad that it was about to lose Jenny as its Vice Chair due to her decision not to stand for election at the May 2005 elections. Luckily for the group Jenny is now based in the House of Lords and continues to be vocal on the need to promote women’s rights, health, education and development in Sudan.
Vice-Chair, John Bercow MP
In 2004, then Shadow International Development Spokesperson for the Conservative Party John accompanied the APG to Sudan in 2004. He was deeply struck by the plight of the people in Sudan and returned to Sudan with the International Development Select Committee at the end of January 2005. As a member of the International Development Select Committee he took written and oral evidence from Governments, UN agencies, development NGOs, human rights organisations and research agencies culminating in the International Development Select Committees Report: Darfur Sudan, the Responsibility to Protect published in March 2005
Vice-Chair, John Barrett MP
A former active member of the powerful House of Commons Select Committee on International Development John met with UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, to discuss the crisis in Darfur. John was one of six members of the International development Select Committee to visit Sudan at the end of January 2005. Along with John Bercow he took part in a major investigation in to the crisis in Darfur led by the International Development Select Committee which produced the hard hitting report, Darfur Sudan, the Responsibility to Protect published in March 2005.
